This mystical, serene island is where St John the Divine wrote the Apocalypse during his exile from the Roman Empire.The cave where he is said to have lived is now the site of the Monastery of the Apocalypse. The port of Patmos is dominated by the hilltop fortress in which the Monastery of St.John was built in A.D.1088. Its treasury houses priceless icons and over 13000 documents dating back to the 6th century B.C.
