Our Tour Leader: The Hon Peter Collins AM QC
Peter Collins will be known to most Australians as a former political leader having served in the NSW Parliament for 22 years as a senior Minister and then Leader of the Opposition.
He is also known for his lifelong commitment to the Australian Defence Force having served as an Army Officer and then Naval Office in the RAN Reserve where he has held the rank of Commander since 1994.
His service has Honorary Colonel of the elite 1st Commando Regiment (1995-2005) resulted in his writing the regimental history “ Strike Swiftly” published in 2005. He has a particular interest in amphibious operations and special forces.
Since leaving the NSW Parliament in 2003, ha has served extensively as a Reserve Lawyer to act as the RAN’s Fleet Legal Office and has conducted inquiries for all three services. Ha has visited several famous battlefields including Guadalcanal, Normandy, Arnham, and, in 2006, the Western Front in France.
An avid collector of Military and Naval history beginning (at age 13!) with C.E.W. Bean’s ANZAC series, Peter Collins will lead to 2007 tour to Gallipoli.
Peter lives in Potts Point and holds senior position on several boards. In 2003 his eldest son Ben graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon.
