6th Australian Division 66th Anniversary Tour For the Battle of Crete



Day 1, 16 May Athens – Arrival Arrive in Athens and transfer to your hotel for overnight stay. Remainder of the day is at your leisure so you can relax after your intl flight or you may explore the beautiful Olympic city of 2004. In early evening a briefing and a “Happy Hour” get together will be held at your hotel. Overnight stay in Athens.

Day 2, 17 May Athens – Heraklio – Rethymnon Today you will attend a wreath laying ceremony at Constitution Square at approximately 10:00 am and at approx 11:30 am a second wreath laying Ceremony will take place at Faliron War Cemetery. Having attended the two ceremonies you will later be transferred to Athens’s Airport for your domestic flight to Heraklion, Crete. Upon arrival in Crete you will be transferred to your hotel n located in Rethymnon, for dinner and overnight stay. (B,D)

Day 3, 18 May Rethymnon – Chania You will start your morning visiting Stavromenos for a Ceremony and wreath laying at 11:00 am, then you will continue to Missiria for another service at 12:15 pm. Following the two ceremonies possibly a reception by the Prefecture of Rethymnon will be held. In the afternoon you will be transferred to Chania for a service in Galatas Village at 19:45 pm. Last event of the day will possibly be a reception held by the Chania Nomarch and then you will return to your hotel in Rethymnon for dinner & overnight stay. (B,D)

Day 4, 19 May Rethymnon – Chania The second day of services in Crete includes a wreath laying at Galatas Hill in Kydonia where you will be transferred to around 10:15 am. before noon you will be transferred back to Rethymnon to meet a reception while at 17:00 pm you will be transferred to Suda Bay for a service and wreath laying ceremony. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay. (B,D)

Day 5, 20 May Rethymnon – Maleme – Chania You will start your day with a morning church service and later you will attend the Police Academy at approx. 10:45 am till noon. At 13:00 pm lunch hosted by the police academy. In the afternoon you will be transferred to Maleme Airfield to attend re-enactment of the Battle of Crete. In the evening you will attend a farewell reception hosted by the Nomarch of Chania. Return to your hotel in Rethymnon for overnight stay. (B,D)

Day 6, 21 May Rethymnon – Preveli – Sfakia Today you will visit the monastery of Preveli on your way to Sfakia, where there will be a wreath laying ceremony by the harbour. Return to Rethymnon for some time at leisure although one more reception might take place, this time hosted by the Normach of Rethymnon. (B,D)

Day 7, 22 May Rethymnon – Heraklion (optional) Take part of an optional visit to Heraklion today, the 3rd largest city of Greece, where you will attend a wreath laying at the Heraklion cenotaph. In the afternoon visit the ancient city of Knossos and its museum. Early evening you will return to Rethymnon for your overnight stay. (B,D)

Day 8, 23 May Rethymnon – Arcadi (optional) Spend the day at your own pace or you may join an optional tour to Arcadi Monastery. Arcadi Monastery is located 23Km southeast of Rethymnon. Built on the 16th Century the monastery is linked with memorable events of Crete’s struggle against Turkish occupation. Overnight stay in Rethymnon. (B,D)

Day 9, 24 May Rethymnon – Maleme (optional) Your last day in Crete gives you the time to either have an optional tour to Maleme, where you can visit the German War Cemetery with its 4400 German soldiers burials, or relax at your hotel. Overnight stay in Rethymnon.(B,D)

Day 10, 25 May Rethymnon – Chania – Athens After breakfast you will be transferred to Chania Airport for your Olympic Airlines flight to Athens. Arrive in Athens and transfer to your hotel for overnight stay. (B)

Day 11, 26 May Athens Day at leisure at the beautiful Olympic City of 2004. Take part of an optional city tour visiting the Acropolis & its museum or simply spend your day at your own leisure. (B)

Day 12, 27 May Athens – Departure After breakfast you will be transferred to Athens Airport for your departure flight or you may alternatively join our optional Northern Greece Tour Package (B) Note: The itinerary during your stay in Crete is subject to changes due to the fact that the Australian Embassy has not announced yet the details of the services planned for the commemorations for the year 2007.

6th Australian Division 66th Anniversary Tour Northern Greece



Day 1, 27 May Athens – Larissa Depart today for your tour to Northern Greece. You will first visit Daphni Monastery built in the 11th century and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. You’ll continue to Thiva, Livadia, Brallos Pass to Mentenitsa where you’ll have a stop for lunch. You’ll then depart to Volos via Thermopilae, known for the battle of Spartans against Persians. Last stop is Larissa where you’ll check in at into your hotel for dinner and overnight stay. (B,D)

Day 2, 28 May Larrisa – Thessaloniki After breakfast you will depart Larrisa travelling up to the Platamon Tunnel where you’ll have a short stop. You’ll continue via Katerini where you’ll have some free time for lunch, to Thessaloniki. Overnight stay in Thessaloniki. (B,D)

Day 3, 29 May Thessaloniki – Kozani Today you’ll leave Thessaloniki to Kozani. You’ll travel through Edessa with it’s waterfalls and through Vevi Memorial at Xino Nero where wreath layings will take place. After some free time for lunch at Xino Nero, you’ll depart to Kozani via Veria. Overnight stay in Kozani. (B,D)

Day 4, 30 May Kozani – Lamia This morning you will travel through Aliakmon River to Serbia and then to Meteora. You’ll visit two monasteries in Meteora and then you’ll continue to Kalambaka for a short stop during lunchtime. Depart Kalambaka through Trikala & Karditsa to Lamia where you’ll have dinner. Overnight stay in Lamia. (B,D)

Day 5, 31 May Lamia – Athens Your last day of touring the northern part of Greece includes a visit to the archaeological sites of Delphi. After some free time for lunch you will depart to Athens via Livadia. Overnight stay in Athens.(B,D) Day 6, 01 June Athens – Departure After breakfast and checking out your hotel you will be transferred to Athens Airport for your departure flight. (B)
